Lens alternative
Lens is the well-known Kubernetes IDE. If you want the same kind of day-to-day GUI — pods, logs, YAML, exec, Helm — but you do not want a vendor account or cluster credentials leaving your machine, KubeSpade is built for that.
Teams look for a Lens alternative after the product moved to a freemium model, after OpenLens stopped being a viable fork, or because they simply want a client that talks to the API the way kubectl does: from your laptop, with your kubeconfig, no extra login.
KubeSpade is an independent Kubernetes GUI for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows (x64 and ARM), and Linux (.deb and AppImage). Connect with a kubeconfig, Amazon EKS, Google GKE, or Azure AKS. There is no KubeSpade cloud that receives your tokens.
| KubeSpade | Lens Desktop | |
|---|---|---|
| Runs on | macOS, Windows, Linux | macOS, Windows, Linux |
| Account to use the app | None | Lens account (free personal / paid Pro) |
| Where credentials live | On your device only | Local, plus Lens/Mirantis account features for teams |
| Connect | kubeconfig, EKS, GKE, AKS | kubeconfig and cloud integrations |
| Day-to-day UI | Workloads, logs, YAML, exec, port-forward, Helm, metrics | Broad IDE: resources, logs, terminal, Helm, Prometheus, extensions |
| Extensions marketplace | No | Yes — a reason to stay on Lens |
| iPad | App Store listing coming | No |
| Best if you… | Want a local GUI and no vendor login | Already live in Lens and need its plugins / team product |
Those are real advantages. KubeSpade does not pretend to be a Lens clone with a larger plugin store.
For browsing clusters, logs, YAML, exec, and Helm — yes, that is the job. It is not a drop-in for the Lens extension ecosystem or Lens team features.
Not for clusters you connect in the app. The desktop client talks to the Kubernetes API itself. You can still use kubectl alongside it for scripts.
Yes. Desktop builds are on the Download page (GitHub Releases, with SHA256SUMS). Verify the checksum before you install.
